This is a pic from a set of illustrations I did for the Grimm Brothers tale 'The Mouse, the Bird and the Sausage'...look it up if you are interested, its a great, bizarre story!
do you know jacek yerka? your work reminds me of that..
I like that. And I like the way you illustrated a traditional story in such an untraditional way.
I wasn't familiar with jacek yerka but I looked into it and he's got some really good stuff... you aren't short of a few skills yourself either.
Im a fan of gary Larson too, have you seen the animated farside series?
I see you like Poe, as well. I'm working on illustrating 'The City by the Sea', 'the Raven' and 'Al Araaf' - fantastic writer! I'm having trouble getting my website up on DA, but take a look if you are interested. [link]
Thanks for the comment!
Your art deco stuff - through the roof.
Thanks for taking a look at my gallery .
What's the problem with your site? DA is a little tricky with showing up changes immediately, I discovered that I have to delete my temporary internetfiles directly after makin a change to see it.
Gary Larson... I never saw them, but I got a book "the farside" wich shows his development over the years. Illustrating Poe or Fairy Tales as a job and not just for fun was always a point on my wishlist. Only thing I often had to do was Horse&Girl- Illustrations. Maybe I'll submit one of them here. But they are kitsch. But I know kids do not like illustrations that are not exactly alike. a princess should look like a princess..
You've seen the little shop of horrors, I see lovely audry. And that Raven- he is quite a character. You should make him the hero of your own story!
I cant seem to access 'profile', or 'settings' no matter what I do!
Guess I'll just keep trying.
Illustrating as a job, thats the dream ain't it!
By the way, 'Bad Religion' looks just like my old school! (apart from the skulls)
Quite uncanny.
Spot on with Audrey II - was she animatronic or what? That movie was made early 80's, but the way she moves is a little too realistic...
what happens if you try? sometimes I can't get access over the top left buttons, but it works trying it over the lefthand navigation you can see, if you're in the message center. Bit confusing anyway.
It's a bittersweet dream, I think. I did Illustrations as a part of my job, and I hated the moment a customer "killed" one of my concepts by wanting this & that without any feeling of proportions or anything.
your old school? That's funny, for my old school was a convent and there where a lot of gloomy little staircases and rooms I really thought highly interesting as a child.
Audrey was something like a mixture between animatronic and a big marionette I think. There are some scenes where she moves her head an tentacles and you can see by the movements she was on threads. Maybe you can find some "making of" on the web?
My old school was a monastery - what a coincidence.
I drew the gargoyles for my art A-levels!
Audrey - the movement of her mouth when she speaks is what gets me...as if there were really muscles working.
Apparently in the original ending, she eats seymour and everyone else then spreads all over New York, climbing the statue of liberty!
Would like to see that.
We love horses, we love drawing, we love gifts, AND we love Christmas. We're gonna combine all that to make Christmas 2009 on dA a seriously awesome one!
